Description: Even among the proud warriors of the Vestenmannavnjar, there are those who are not suited to hurling harpoons or wielding heavy axes. Yet the smaller, weaker members of the tribes (male and female alike) still want to contribute to the defense of their way of life. As the Vendel League grew in power, the Frenetisk fighting stye was created to allow these men and women to ambush their enemies and strike with furious surprise on their side. Popular among the Vestenmannavnjar who attempt to infiltrate Vendel society or sneak into the camps of their hired mercenaries for strikes against enemy officers, it is whispered that the folk hero Uvitenhet is trained in this fighting style.
Frenetisk fighters are frenetic bundles of stabbing death. Using paired daggers (often enchanted with runes), they are taught to keep their foes on the defensive, pressing every advantage until the opponent is defeated. Little allowance is made for defense; the Frenetisk fighter is too busy trying to disable (or even kill) his opponents to bother with such things.
Frenetisk is a reckless style, ill-suited to epic duels or extensive exchanges of bladework. A reckless knife-fighter makes mistakes: in rushing to attack, the Frenetisk fighter may inadvertently leave an opening in his already meager defenses. This opening is exacerbated against an opponent with a longer weapon, as it takes an extra moment to close within striking range, allowing a greater opportunity to set up a defense or launch a preemptive attack.
Basic Curriculum: Dirty Fighting, Knife
Knacks: Charge (Knife/Knife), Corps-á-Corps, Double Attack (Knife/Knife), Exploit Weakness (Frenetisk), Lunge (Knife)
Apprentice: Students of Frenetisk train extensively with twin daggers, and never suffer a penalty when wielding two at the same time (or just one in his off hand). In addition, the savage nature of Frenetisk provides its students with a free Raise when making an attack using the Attack (Knife) Knack.
Journeyman: Journeymen of Frenetisk have learned to embrace the frenzied nature of the fighting style, striking fast and hard at every opportunity. When attacking with the Action Die lowered by his Charge Knack, the Journeyman may add his Rank in the Charge Knack directly to his Damage Roll if the attack is successful. In addition, the Journeyman may use his Charge Knack in every Round of combat, not just the first.
Master: A Frenetisk Master learns a Technique that allows him to hamper a target’s ability to defend himself with a strategic strike to the knee. When making an attack, the Master may declare two Raises to make a Called Shot to an opponent’s leg. If the attack is successful, the opponent’s ability to move is hampered and he cannot use either Footwork or Balance as a Defense Knack (for either Active or Passive Defense). This effect lasts until the end of the Round. If the attack inflicts one or more Dramatic Wounds, the effect lasts until the end of the Scene instead.
In addition, the Master receives a free Rank in his Charge Knack, which should increase it to a six. If for some reason it does not, the Master may increase it from a five to a six later by spending 25 XP.
