Poisons: P

PAGONA TOXIN
-1 Finesse / 30 minutes / 3 hours

The pagona (pictured above), sometimes called a red pagona, is a spiny lizard native to the arid, mountainous regions of the Crescent Empire. It is typically found only at high altitudes.

Each of the lizard’s needle-sharp, prickly spines easily detaches from its body and contains a mild version of its poison (-1 Finesse / 30 minutes / 30 minutes) . A small diamond-shaped sac, located just at the edge of its mouth, contains a highly concentrated toxin. The entire sac may be extracted, cauterized, and used to transport the poison, which has a light green hue. It may be used on a dart or arrow or placed into wine or some other alcoholic beverage. When added to a drink, an oily sheen appears on the surface until swirled. The oily sheen will reappear on the surface after settling. Adding even a tiny amount of salt to the beverage renders the poison inert, though consuming salt after the poison has been injected or ingested has no effect.

At first the victim feels slightly off-balance when subjected to this poison, followed by extreme vertigo and sleepiness. Once a victim is reduced to zero Finesse, no further Ranks of the Trait are lost, but the victim falls into a deep sleep from which he cannot be awakened until his Finesse is increased to a Rank of one or higher. If the poison is allowed to run its course, or if an antidote is successfully administered, lost Ranks of Finesse return at a rate of one every thirty minutes.

THE PASSAGE
7k7 + 10 Flesh Wounds / 1 hour / 5 days

Information on the background, symptoms, and treatment (or lack thereof) for The Passage can be found on pages 16 – 18 of The Fantasy Poisoner’s Handbook.

Notes: If The Passage is used against a victim and his viscera removed so that the concentrated poison may be extracted, increase its damage per interval by one Kept Die (+1k1). It takes a Wits + Poison roll against a TN of 40 to successfully extract the concentrated poison.

THE POISON TREE
1k1 Flesh Wounds / 6 hours / 15 days

Information on the background, symptoms, and treatment for the poison tree can be found in The Fantasy Poisoner’s Preview.

Notes: The TN to detect this poison is always increased by ten. Each time a new dose is ingested prior to the expiration of the previous dose, the poison’s duration is reset to fifteen days. Remember that damage from a poison (neither Flesh Wounds nor Dramatic Wounds) cannot be healed while that poison is still active in a victim’s system.
