Bent Grip (5 G): Any straight-bladed fencing weapon (e.g., a rapier or a small sword, but not a saber) may be fitted with a bent grip, allowing greater control over a weapon, though at some cost of power. The grip has a significant curve, allowing it to fit easily in the hand. Weapons with a bent grip provide a Free Raise on all Tagging rolls and any Called Shots made with them, but any tens rolled for damage remain tens and do not explode. The schematics for producing a weapon with a bent grip are in the hands of the Knights of the Rose & Cross, and anyone wishing to have such a weapon must be a member of the Knights (or have a very strong connection to them).
Rifling (20 G): Rifling a firearm involves carving a curved channel inside the barrel of the pistol or musket, causing the bullet to spin as it leaves the weapon, improving accuracy over longer ranges. A rifled barrel reduces a firearm’s Short and Long Range modifiers by five each and increases the weapons Range by ten yards. The schematics for producing a rifled weapon are in the hands of the Invisible College, and anyone wishing to have such a weapon must be a member of the College (or have a very strong connection to them).
Swept Hilt (12 G): A rapier with a swept hilt has a complex guard made up of heavy wire forming a swirl-patterned basket. These wires are neither simply decorative nor just protection for the hand; they are specifically designed to entrap an opponent’s blade. A swept hilt rapier gives a Free Raise to any Bind or Disarm maneuvers the wielder attempts. In addition, the wires provide protection to the wielder’s sword hand, making it immune to called shots.
